When the mirror-perfect, still surface of a vast pond
is broken by a stone thrown from the shore,
ripples radiate out in all directions.
.
The perfectly clear reflection shatters
at the focal point of disturbance
as the splash captures the attention.
.
The subtle integrated background of wholeness
is seemingly lost, extending out in time and space.
No element of the reflection is unaffected.
.
Awareness is that deep, still water.
It reflects the world perfectly.
The world does not disturb it at all.
.
All attention focuses on the splash of “I want”,
rippling out, affecting and distorting the perceived world,
suddenly bringing back the focus to “Me, Me, Me.”
.
If you can remain sensitive to the calm, still peace
of your perfect mirror, you will sense the faintest ripple.
Be aware of it, but do not let it capture your interest,
and consume the gift of perfection for its own gratification.
