Mystery

.

“The darker the mystery,  the more we are illumined by it.”

Jean-Pierre de Caussade

.

“In a place where there are signs, in that place there is deception.

If you can see the signless nature of signs, you can see the Tathagata”

The Diamond Sutra

.

.

As one ceases to be enthralled by the life of the personality,

and loses interest in its likes and dislikes,

a subtle ease of being starts gradually seeping

beneath the substance of experience, like a filter.

.

No longer driven to pursue distractions and activities,

One finds oneself attracted to silence,

flushed with waves of peace and gentle joy,

and a profound stillness fills the heart space.

.

Yet these are still phenomenal experiences,

although wonderfully positive and affirmative,

and more rooted, centred and foundational

than the transient noise of a busy life.

.

It could be so easy to settle for this, to claim this

as the truth of one’s being, as the essence itself.

Profound though these experiences may be,

they are still subject to change and fluctuation.

.

Let them be and draw no conclusions.

Cease locating oneself through experiences.

Discover that one is already “The Mystery”,

once you stop being the known, however subtle.

.

“Neti Neti” strips away everything that can be grasped.

What is left is No-thing, a profound and vitally alive void,

simply the source itself, the origin. It is not an experience.

It is timeless, dimensionless and prior to all experiencing.

.

To surrender utterly to that which cannot be sensed or imagined,

is to trust in the absolute-unknown beyond concept.

A radiant light beyond seeing shines forth and deep faith

in that which is forever beyond, silences all doubts before they arise.
