(The Indivisible Continuity of Self – an appreciation of Bergson’s Philosophy of Time)
.
Can you experience a melody
by hearing just a single note?
Does a sentence make sense
by stopping to analyse each word—
or by sensing understanding
as it emerges in continuous movement?
Can you catch a river
by placing buckets along the bank?
Simply put:
can you divide experience?
Can you pause the unfolding
to go make a cuppa’ builders—
like during a Netflix binge?
All is flow.
I am flow.
Beginningless. Endless. Flow.
Nothing happens to me—
I am the happening.
An ungraspable becoming,
never a fixed become.
Unknowable,
because ever-changing.
Not an object to be appraised.
Experience is not a series
of successive states—
like flickering stills
assembled into motion.
It is a continuous unfolding,
an ever-present interpenetrating duration.
Where all time-scales coexist
within the never-ending,
never-beginning present of presence.
Duration carries depth.
Succession is a concept—
a label cast backwards
onto the already-dead past.
But even this labeling
is part of the relentless absorption
in the now.
From this perspective,
one sees how effortless it all is—
and how choiceless.
There is no fixed point
within flow
to make a choice.
It has already moved on.
Choice and effort
are not foundations—
but ripples in the unfolding.
Not separate actions,
but expressions of it.
I am Flow.
There is no “one”
to make a choice
or exert the effort to enact it.
Witnessing is process,
is presence,
is integral to experience—
not a fragment
not a neutral zone
not an observing ghost
standing apart from the flow.
There is no unchanging witness.
No absolute empty space
in which “it” all happens.
There is only this:
No resistance to change.
And that non-resistance
is the very womb
of creativity.
Of creation.
The Self cannot be separated.
Self is flow.
Flow is All.
All is I Am.
And flow is love.
Love is the current
at the heart
of flow.
