The Many Faces of God
.
Sometimes, when least expected,
the scales fall from my eyes,
and a deeper layer of reality
infuses the everyday view of the world—
adding wonder and the mystery of being.
.
Yesterday, walking by the river,
I saw an elderly couple, both slightly stooped,
gently supporting each other,
radiating the comfort of years together—
and I also saw two faces of God.
.
Some teenagers were playfully engaged
in holiday tasks at the local boatyard.
They bounced with the exuberance of youth—
carefree, unburdened, glowing with vitality—
and I saw even more faces of God.
.
Everywhere I looked, people going about their lives,
absorbed in their private worlds and circumstances—
and all were faces of God, playing multiple roles,
all unique, yet all expressions of the One—
the Infinite, the Eternal—waves on the Ocean of Being.

All perfectly themselves,
and universal in their living context.
